The Long Field

We spent fourteen months on the farm, mostly in bad weather, and the film is largely made of long takes of somebody doing a job. Nothing dramatic happens for the first forty minutes, which was a fight in the edit and is the reason it works.

The decision at the centre of the film is not really about money. Alan could have sold in 2019 and been comfortable. What the year revealed is that he has no idea who he is without the hill, and neither does anyone in his family.

Shot on two cameras with a crew of three, so that the room stayed small enough for people to forget we were in it.
