How it was made
She has nine months to make the squad
Sport documentaries almost always sell you a redemption arc. We agreed at the outset that we would cut the film the same way whether she qualified or not, and we told her that on camera in the first week so the promise is in the film.
The gym gave us unrestricted access on the condition that we filmed everybody, not just her. That turned out to be the making of it — the supporting cast are the reason the ending lands.
Almost entirely handheld, available light, one operator.
